Kenya-Slowed growth in the construction sector

According to report released by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, growth in the Kenyan construction sector slowed down in the third quarter of 2016 due to the general slowdown in private real estate development. Compared to the same time frame in 2015, the construction sector grew by 9.3% in 2016 as compared to 15.6% in 2015. The slowed growth can be accounted for by a reduction in civil works of the Mombasa-Nairobi standard gauge railway that is nearing completion. The slowed growth will likely persist due to the uncertainty around the general election that will be held in August, and thus the focus will be on completion of ongoing project developments.
